Welcome to this site. It is dedicated to Multi stage Mid
power Sport Rocketry
Booster My idea is
to have a motor system that can be interchangeable in at least two diameters,
such as 38/54mm, for a minimum diameter airframe as in the booster, which has a diameter of
2.560" id. This would allow a model rocketeer a chance to go from a
novice to a NAR or Tripoli
level three certification using one rocket, if
there is the desire to, thereby saving time, money and effort.
Well I did some assuming on
my part that a 2.560" airframe would be able to hold a RMS motor that
could contain 5120 + Newton-seconds. Wrong!! To
get into that class of motors, I need to step up to 75mm motors. This leaves
me two options: One - start over with the booster
and go to an airframe of 5.380," or Two - build the 2.560"
airframe as is, then build a second booster that can handle the 75mm and 98mm
motors. I have chosen to take the latter route.
Update
Oct. 28 2000 I have received my parts back from the machine shop and
everything fits great. I have epoxied the mother tube screw adapter to
the top of the 54mm MMT and will be epoxying the MMT into the airframe
shortly.
Update Nov. 05 2000 After
writing Mr. Waddell at PML asking when the Terrier booster
kit for the Mini BBX may be released and receiving his reply ( David,
the Terrier booster is still coming along. We had a neat
idea for the interstage coupler that we feel is worth delaying the Terrier a
little bit longer, but it should be out relatively soon.)
I am going to try my hand it. to see who can come up with the better idea (FORD
or CHEVY?) So below is my hen scratching, done completely in
Microsloth's paint program, that I will give to the machine shop to make
from the Polypenco Nylon 101
that was used for the other parts as well.
