The following are actual comments from judges at Solo and Ensemble
Festival:(well, you know, they COULD be!)
I've heard better tone production from a weed-whacker.
Did you MEAN to be playing that piece from the middle out to the edges?
The little "b" means flat and the "pound sign" means sharp.
Whole notes should be held out LONGER than eighth notes.
The correct fingering for open G is as follows: open.
Are you SURE that fingering chart was for YOUR instrument?
Was that an accelerando at measure 37, or were you just fumbling for the note?
Always remove the swab from your instrument before beginning to play.
Okay, now turn the music right side up and start again!
I've seen better breath support in an 80-year-old chain smoker.
See all the little dots on the page? Those are NOTES.
Please try not to sob during all the rests.
"Ritard" doesn't mean "stupid," it means "slow down."
When tuning up, you should both try and play the same note.
When playing the saxophone, your left hand goes on the top and your right hand goes on the bottom.
If you tapped your foot any louder, we could call this a percussion solo.
If you need to stop and begin crying in the middle of your solo, please indicate this in the judge's copy of your music.
