Starting horses is our specialty. We will give your horse the time and patience so that it can become what you imagined. This comes from a gentle mind and calm disposition. A pleasurable relationship with your horse comes as a result of "The Foundation Method". It is the most important training your horse will receive. It establishes how your horse will react in any given situation. Our training will give it the desire to learn. Trail riding is the most popular use for horses, and we have an extensive program that includes actual trail rides featuring many of the obstacles you would expect to encounter on your adventures.

With a deep understanding of the horses mind, problem horses are another specialty of ours. We can help to change the way the horse thinks with a little persistence and a strong understanding of the fundamentals. Problem horses are often a result of a poor starting or freak accidents. This is traumatic to the horse’s mind. With patience, many problem horses can be turned around and will become wonderful horses.

When To Start A Horse And What To Expect

As a horse matures from foal to adolescence it gradually increases its capability for learning and its level of understanding.  Similar to the way in which we learn. So you can expect varying degrees of results depending on the horses age. We recommend if your colt/filly is 5-6 months you should have him/her weaned, halter broke, taught to lead, tie, be brushed all over and be able to pick up and work with their legs. This is the beginning.

At 1-2 years, your horse should be taught to accept a bit, lunge, drive. There should also be a brush up on the basic beginning steps.

Depending on the breed and what you intend to use your horse for, the “Starting” of the horse begins at 2-5 years. This always includes: a quiet mount, walk, trot, lope, stop, back, circle, and to be able to walk freely away without the use of a wall. If the beginning steps are done correctly, you should be riding very soon. All horses are different, so results may vary, but usually an experienced rider is able to ride comfortably in 1-4 months.

Schedule Your Horse For Training

Space is limited and there are only so many hours in a day.
We recommend that you call early for reservations to assure availability.

Colts/Fillies 5+ months are generally done in the winter months, starting in February. This is arranged on a month by month basis.

Horses needing the second phase are scheduled beginning in April.

Starting horses are scheduled no earlier than May. This provides the greatest exposure and the best training we can offer. Problem horses are worked in this same time frame.
