LALONDE FAMILY REUNION
Lalondes join FrancoFete 1999

FrancoFete '99, a yearlong statewide celebration designed to commemorate the tricentennial of the establishment of the first permanent colony by the French in Louisiana, will be held throughout the state of Louisiana     January 1. 1999 - December 31, 1999. As part of this celebration, the Lalonde family, with its roots in Quebec, will hold its celebration called "Rendezvous des Familles Lalonde" on April 16th, 17th and 18th, 1999.

Jean de Lalonde dit L'esperance, the ancestral father of most of the Louisiana Lalondes, left France in 1665 to settle New France, in an area that we know today as the Province of Quebec.  Most of those early Lalondes lived in the Montreal area.  Jean married a "Fille de Roi" by the name of Marie Barban in the year 1669. "Fille de Roi" or King's Daughters, were women the king sent to the New World with a dowry presented to them upon marriage to a French colonist. Jean and his "Fille de Roi" Marie had four children, three of whom lived to adulthood.

Two of Jean's grandsons, Jean Baptiste and Guillaume made their way to Louisiana in the late 1700 via the Mississippi River. Jean Baptiste had only one son who died in infancy.  He did have daughters, and although they undoubtedly have many descendants in Louisiana, the Lalonde name was carried on through Guillaume.  Guillaume had four sons of whom most Louisiana Lalondes are descended from.

This is the revised schedule for the Lalonde family's three day "Rendezvous des Familles Lalonde" in Lafayette, Louisiana. It will begin with a "fais do-do" on Friday night at Acadian Village.  On Saturday, April 17th, the Lalondes will gather at (Randol’s) a popular Cajun restaurant and dancehall. On Sunday, April 18th - a day at Vermilionville, a Living History Museum with more Cajun food and Cajun music. Bring a picture of your Lalonde ancestor/descendent for the Wall of Memories - a tribute to those who came before us or those who hold a special place in our hearts.
