Sokoke  Cats
by the
The North American Sokoke Association
(Est 4/27/00)
The above photos of a young native Giarama boy with a Sokoke Cat and the Sokokes on the beach were taken by Bob Schwartz of Italy (also a Sokoke breeder) near Watamu, Kenya where these cats originally were found on the fringe of the forest they are named for.

This is a very rare breed.  Less than 30 whole cats exist outside of Kenya. America, a recent member of the international team to save these intriguing little cats, had only three full blooded Sokokes that were whole until March 2003.

The effort to save these cats that was originally being done mainly in Denmark, with one breeder in Italy, has expanded to Norway, Sweden, Canada, Germany, & France (I hope I haven't forgotten anyone) and now the United States and Canada.

Explore a Brand New Cat Breed!

Begin your adventure by learning of the mysterious history of these wonderful little cats and then visit their home in the Arabuko Sokoke Forest on a virtual safari. To find out about how you can help, visit the "help" page and join the North American Sokoke Association,  Learn about our North American Sokoke Association by reading on our mission, purpose, & about our registry; and find out about meetings, newsletter, and certified pedigree program.  Meet the officers of the North American Sokoke Association and our members (including our breeders) especially if you're looking for a kitten.  A page of pictures of America's and Canada's Sokokes (with links to their pedigrees) is still being developed but is available.
