North American Sokoke Association
"To Preserve, Promote, and Protect the Sokoke Cat"

The North American Sokoke Association was formed on April 27, 2000 by Judy Allen, Sherri Parks, and Pat & Ken Longley.  The first meeting was held on August 12, 2000 with the By Laws, Statement of Purpose, and Mission Statement being decided on and the election of officers accomplished on that date.
Due to illnesses of a couple of our founders and lack of available kittens in America, we decided to put the association on "inactive" during part of 2001 and all of 2002.
With the exciting new Sokokes arriving in America; Judy, Sherri, and Ken's steady improvements, and Manon's accomplishments in Canada, we have renewed our activities!  In keeping with some of the new progress, we've voted to change our name to North American Sokoke Association (instead of American Sokoke Association). This will now include Canada in our membership in recognition of the work Manon has done toward recognition of the Sokokes in CCA there. This is truly an exciting time for all of us interested in Sokokes.
Our logo based on a lovely photo of America's first Sokokes was developed by Pat Longley and a design for the membership cards and certified pedigrees was also developed.
Our logo:

Our first endeavor was undertaken this summer by Pat Longley and Judy Allen with the assistance of several non NASA members but who are TICA members.  We began the process toward registeration statis for our Sokokes with TICA, The International Cat Association.  [Sokokes currently have registration & NBC statis with UFO, United Feline Organization. UFO accepted us from the very beginning, due to the Sokokes acceptance by FIFe. Sokokes are registered with, AND have, championship statis in FIFe.  Our group worked on line and developed a standard.  The standard and other required information being presented to the TICA board on 8/29/03 by Lynn Schafer-Russell.  A full report on this show and board meeting will be in the coming issue of our newsletter, Sokoke Drum Beats.
Also on the immediate agenda, will be information "booths" at local cat shows and other public activities. I'll keep you posted as to where these are planned and where and when Sokokes will be available for viewing on our home page.
Our President, Sherri, had all of the peds in the computer and we were almost ready to start issuing certified pedigrees in the Fall of 2000.  However, these were lost in a computer crash and we'll have to start all over again.  (Never fear, she does have the "hard copies".) I'm prepared to issue 5 Generation Certified Peds in the meantime; but, you'll have to supply all 5 generations and a photo of the cat.  (That is 4 generations not counting the cat.)  Don't forget all the normal information (numbers, DOB, color, etc.) All can be emailed.  This will have our North American Sokoke Association Logo on them and your kitty's full color photo.  The price of these lovely pedigrees is $25 and they are totally framable.  And, 10% of the Certified Pedigree proceeds go to the Friends of the Arabuko Sokoke Forest.  Please allow about a month for delivery of your pedigrees.  (I'm hand inputing for the time being.)
