Hsai-Jung Chang - Pianist

In August, 2000, I was contacted to record Hsai-Jung Chang, a classical pianist residing in manhattan. She played the 9-foot grand Steinway at Holy Names Music Center, Spokane.

After trying five pairs of fine condenser microphones at varying placements, she chose the AKG C-3000's and one Marshall MXL-2003. The AKG's were placed about 12-feet in front of and slighly above the piano in an O.R.T.F-X pattern. The Marshall was placed a few feet away and centerred to the Steinway's soundboard and slightly mixed in as presence.

For nine hours we recorded various Chopin pieces with multiple takes.

Hsai-Jung is truly a gifted and fine pianist. Her sister is a recording engineer with BMG, New York and will master and edit our session tapes. I am anxious to hear the final CD.

Two AKG-C-3000; one Marshall MXL-2003; Mackie 1604-VLZ mixer; Tascam DA-20
