Each
year, approximately 140,000 seedlings are planted in northern Idaho through
this program.
The intention of the tree sales program is to promote conservation and the
reforestation of critical areas within northern Idaho.
Seeds that have been collected from specific
sites according to elevation and transfer zone are stored in a seed bank until
grown into seedlings.

The seedlings are then container-grown into 5.5 cu. in. plugs at North Woods
Nursery in Elk River, Idaho. They are held in cold storage there until
the seedlings are transported for planting.
The seedlings are made available to private landowners through conservation
districts and consulting foresters.
Cut off dates vary by year and by district. Orders are on
a first-come, first-serve basis. We encourage you to consider your
planting needs and place an order as early as possible.
The seedlings that are available are Western White Pine, Western Larch,
Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir.
