Objectives: The learner will...
...apply technology tools for problem-solving, and decision-making in content learning. (NETS 4, 5)
...create an interactive presentation.

Klik & Play is a powerful "script free" programming tool for non technical users to create complex educational games, simulations and presentations (think Hyperstudio on Steroids!). Best of all, it's FREE and runs fast on older machines! You can make a simulation and understand the mechanics of game logic. There is a huge library of pre-defined objects to choose from (or you can create all your own from scratch!) plus built-in animation and picture editors. Most games/presentations will fit on a single floppy and do not require the Klik & Play program to run! Make and play your presentation in minutes!

LET'S GET STARTED!

Making the Hyperstudio/Powerpoint-style presentation

Once you have launched Klik & Play you should select CREATE A GAME and the program should open up with the Storyboard Editor similar to the picture below.

You willl need 3 frames in this exercise so click TOOLS and select the first icon to add new levels/frames to your presentation. Your mouse cursor is now active and will let you place a Frame 2 next to Frame 1. Repeat this procedure to make a 3rd frame. You are now ready to edit each frame!

Right-click on Frame 1 and select the Level Editor. A vertical scrolling library bar appears on the left of the level editor that is populated with all kinds of object types including backgrounds, characters, etc. As you select each category in the library, its contents will appear in a horizontal scrolling menu at the top. Choose a "backdrops" library icon on the left vertical scrooling menu and then select a background object from the horizontal top scrolling menu. Carefully place the background on the frame so that it completely covers the frame.

To add text to your frame just click on TOOLS and select the "abc" icon. Click EDIT, enter your text, click OK, Select your font (type, color, size), click OK, click OK again. Your mouse pointer is now active and wherever you click on the frame will place this text. You can grab the "handles" of the text box to reposition if you like. Now, GOTO the storyboard editor and repeat this backdrop and text process on each level/frame. NOW, you are ready to add some action to each frame/level! GOTO the storyboard editor again and right click on Frame 1 and select EVENT Editor.

Right-click on "New condition", select the "A" icon, select "The mouse" and select "User clicks" and then OK.

Right-click on the next "New condition" line, select the "wrench" icon, select "Limit conditions" and select "Run this event once". Your event editor window should look similar to the one below.

In the "speaker" icon column and "Run this event once" row, right-click the box and select "Play sample". You may have to hunt around until you find the sample sound directory with the sound effect you want for your slide transition. Next, in the "tennis rackets" icon column and the "User clicks with left button" row, right-click the box and select "Next frame". This frame is now done! GOTO the Storyboard Editor again, select the next frame, GOTO the Event Editor, repeat the above process to the remaining frames.

If you wish to test or play your presentation now, click GOTO and Storyboard Editor and choose GAME and select Play game as finished. If you wish to save your work you can choose FILE and select Save stand alone game.

If you have time, GOTO the storyboard editor and select a frame to Level Edit and add more library objects to spice up your presentation.
