03/16/02 Update

OK, this thing can't really be a muscle car with a 318. A new engine was in order. An easy fix would have been to replace it with another small block. So much for easy, I selected a 440 CI big block. This particular engine was taken from a 78 Dodge truck. The owner had recent receipts of a rebuild. The engine was clean on the inside, but filthy on the outside. Truck oil pans had the sump on the rear, cars in the middle, so a new pan/pickup would be required. This is a later model, pretty smogged out, but it should serve as a solid builder. I did have the opportunity the hear it run. It seemed to need a tune up, but it didn't smoke at all.

Ahh, a fresh new project in front of me. Goodbye money.

Bone stock, 1978 Dodge 440. The air conditioning compressor can be scrapped.

This really is a big engine. I was anxious to start tearing it down to see what I had. It was obvious that quite a bit of cleaning was ahead of me. The carb was trash, the distributer needed replacing and there was a lot of bracketry I would not need.
