05/25/02 Update

Finally, it's time for some motive progress. It's time to pull the motor. I've left the 318 in this long so I could drive the car if I had to. This means that I can finally pull the sidepipes off. I cleaned and painted the bay in anticipation of my new motor. I also purchased a used transmission. It came out of a '78 New Yorker.

Here's the state of the project. Most importantly the side pipes are gone! I took great pleasure in removing them. I hope they rust in hell.

The donor transmission. It is a 1978 727B. It seemed to be in good repair. I performed some maintanence and inspection (of my wallet) and decided it would be OK. I washed all the gunk off, installed a Mopar Performance deep pan, new front and rear seals, and the correct speedo gearing. I also added a urethane mount and bushings.

The Grand Canyon. The 318/904 is gone. I have already installed the new transmission. This picture was taken right after pressure washing the engine bay. Most of the stuff has been removed.

A hand grinder with a wire brush took care of the little rust spots. I painted them with Corroless from the Eastwood Company and primered the whole thing.

The engine bay got a full coat of semi-gloss black. It seems more gloss than semi, though. The front valence, bumper and grill later came off for access to drop the engine in. I will detail this at a later time.
