Welcome to Josh's Bat House page.
Here are some photos of the bat house we have built.
We hung this bat house in what seems to be
an ideal location. The property is 1.3 Acres, has a stream
running through it, and has some forested area. The property borders
a pond. There is no shortage of bugs and mosquitoes for the bats
to eat. There is enough open space that we will be able to get sun exposure
on the house almost all day. For those of you who are curious
about why anyone would want a bat house, I suggest you look at some of
the websites and discussions on The
Bat house discussion forum. If you are interested in building
a bat house, I would recomend reading Merlin Tuttle's The
Bat House Builder's Handbook. (Offered here in association with Amazon.com) That book had the plans for this bat house, and several smaller ones. Please check back frequently to see the progress of this project. Be sure to check out page 2! It shows the final assembly and installation processes!

The remaining slides show the entire construction process.
These parts go into one bat house. You can build 2 bat houses
out of
1/2 sheet of 1/2 inch plywood, 1/2 1/4 inch plywood and 2 1x6x8s
We plan to build two and mount them back to back.
The 3 partitions and the back are covered with a fiberglass window
screening
This makes it easier for the bats to climb around in there.
This is what one fully assembled bat house looks like.
The vent in the front provides some temperature variety for the
bats.
The house will be painted Dark brown, to provide solar heat for
the bats.
They like it very warm.
This view shows the partitions that provide 4 separate roosting
chambers.
