From my heart to yours…
Dear Member/Friend,
Since the happenings of September 11, my mind has been a kaleidoscopic whirl of emotions as horrific events continue to unfold before my eyes. The ease with which they appear makes them seem surreal, particularly with intervals of apparent normalcy in between, weather reports, local news and such…I sometimes wonder, “Did my mind conjure this up, am I tuned in to a bad movie?…did I get the wrong channel?” Sadly, “no.” One moment I feel inexorably intertwined with the lives of the masses of people whose lives forever changed that day, being their pain and anguish. The next moment I’m back in my own head trying to make sense out of senseless acts. My mind is on a gigantic teeter-tooter of emotions.
In all of this, I’m so glad I’ve moved beyond my childhood concept of a God who would conceivably do this to someone or even allow it.. God is love, not war, nor hate, nor destruction. God isn’t “up there somewhere”, it’s inside of you…of me…of everyone, even the misguided people who did this.
There was a column in our local paper recently asking, “Whose side is God on?”…such a simplistic question. It seems that all of life and how it plays out has everything to do with people’s concept of God, by whatever name or nature they understand God to be or not to be.
We know God is everywhere and how it expresses in any part of life is how the ‘inclusive we’ individually and collectively express it. Not everyone knows this and therefore invents a God to suit his/her own purpose. It is important to remember that God is still in charge here and spiritual laws never change.
Everybody reaps what they sow.
With the holiday season upon us, I’m reminded more than ever of all I have to be thankful for…a warm and comfortable home, a loving partner, a family who loves me and whom I love, good food to eat, clothes to keep me warm, a precious furry four-legged companion who gives unconditional love, a legacy of love from those no longer with me but whose touch is on my heart forever, a church family that I truly love and cherish as congregants and friends. Our building is precious to me, too. It holds the memory imprint of so many wonderful souls, special events and love vibrations that warm our hearts each time we enter.
In some places of the world instead of greeting each other with “How are you?” as is our custom, people ask “What kind of a person are you?” Perhaps it’s time for the whole world to do this. Many don’t understand they are divine beings and therefore behave as though they are not. Let our Christmas prayer be that all beings come to understand and live their holy nature. Let this sacred time of year be a time of healing for all of God’s creation. Let us know we are each other.
