Mirrors
by
Amethyst

the stars are mirrors
reflections of our ancestral face
in their thermogenesis
our life elements burned free
stars look securely down
unthreatened
by their striving generations

we are the stars of earthnew beginning
seeds of fire magnanimously flung
petals of flame open
in the heart's breathless space

why couldn't you come down
from your unconfident height
and play a child's game?
did you fear
that on the floor's neutrality
I would be your equal
or you mine?

you let a universe pass by
galaxies unfold
stars draw hot dust, coalesce
burn away

in one heart's solitary void
fire-flowers bloomed unseen
in silence
just below the level
of your eyes
