Momentary Birds
by
Amethyst

sudden bird
you fly across the light
a small eclipse like clouds
like curtains drawn
like hope half-closed

I wonder, are you someone's faith
your absence her singularity
a soul-deep poverty of light
in which she falls, forever falls to be
extinguished like belief's last candle

or in your fleeting wisdom
did you, knowing the fate
of momentary birds,
give her a new and precious
faith to hold

a part of you to keep
her safe, a tender brightness
whose gravity could pull her back

a tiny, singing light
that pulses deep within her
like a star
