PROJECTS:   Kennel Replacement Continued...
PROPOSED CHANGES:
Either of the plan variations to follow will result in a decrease in disease transmission, and more saved lives. The resultant financial savings from either plan is conservatively estimated at approximately $2500.00 per month.
Savings would be derived from a decrease in the cost of medications administered to sick animals awaiting adoption. Also, lost revenue resulting from adoption returns and subsequent refunds because of sick animals is expected to decrease. Additional savings, relative to the cost of euthanizing sick animals, is also projected. To include savings in the man-hours needed to perform all of the functions outlined above.
The proposed changes to SpokAnimal's current kennel call for nothing less than an entirely new system. Relative to possible budgetary limitations, the plan allows for one of two variations.
- a.   Complete construction of a new fixed kennel system.
- b.   Introduction of modular kennel system set-up.
Under both plans the modification would have to take place in stages where one bank of the existing chain linked system and platform is removed and set up in SpokAnimal's warehouse or leased space. This will essentially will leave half of a concrete slab on which to initiate either plan variation a. or b.
Upon completion of the first phase, animals from the remaining kennel bank are moved in to the new units. After removal of the remaining kennel bank, phase two, variation a. or b. is initiated and completed. Upon completion, animals housed in SpokAnimal's warehouse or leased space are now moved in.
OVERVIEW OF PLAN VARIATION A.
Complete construction of a new fixed kennel system:   Given an adequate project budget, variation a. would be the preferred plan. After the initial clearing phase of the first half of the kennel has be achieved, we start fixed kennel construction on what is now essentially a bare slab of concrete.
At this point the necessary trenching is performed for the laying of a primary sewage lateral. With a new lateral pipe in place, the trench is now filled. Any additional floor drains are trenched, installed and coupled with the laterals or main at this time. A primary concrete kennel platform is now poured, with kennel drainpipes routed individually to the trenched lateral.
Individual kennels are now erected upon the cement platform. Kennels are to be constructed out of cinderblock and motor, or cement poured into frames. Kennel doors will be constructed out of solid sheets of plexiglass, or standard kennel doors constructed out of ¼ bars. Doors will be removable. Kennels walls will be sealed with epoxy based calk, and coated with epoxy based paint.
A non-skid texture is now applied to the kennel isle(s).
OVERVIEW OF PLAN VARIATION B.
Introduction of modular kennel system set-up:   In the event that an adequate project budget cannot be realized, variation b. would be an acceptable as well as effective plan. After the initial clearing phase of the first half of the kennel has be achieved, we start the introuductin of modular kennel units on what is now essentially a bare slab of concrete.
Popular modular kennel units featuring coated OSB attached to tube steel frames are then erected upon the concrete platform. PVC drainage pipes are now attached individually from each kennel unit to the lateral.
A non-skid texture is now applied to the kennel isle(s).
