PROJECTS:   Kennel Replacement.

Background:

The existing kennel system was consturcted on site January 1st 1984 at SpokAnimal's original shelter located in the Spokane valley. Then in 1992, the structure was disassembled and moved to our current location at 710 N. Napa, Spokane, where it has been used ever since.

Age of current kennel structure = 18 years.

The current kennel design essentially features chain link fencing material, which is clamped to tube steel frames. Panels of lightweight fiberglass are then riveted along the bottom portion of each kennel in an attempt to decrease disease transmition - which at the time of original construction was thought to be an effective design.

The individual kennels are then clamped to each other (side by side), which forms kennel rows, of approximately 15 kennels per side. Two rows are attached to each other (back to back), thus forming a total of two kennel banks.

Total kennels = 52 single + 2 doublewide.

The respectively interconnected kennel banks sit upon a frame consisting of dimensional lumber and chipboard. This frame is wrapped in a fiberglass shell and features a built in 'back drain' which runs the length of a kennel bank, between kennel rows. The back drains in turn, connect to ~ 4" PVC lateral drains located on the kennel's east wall. These couple with the main sewage service line(s) exiting the building.
