Although Spokanimal C.A.R.E. has been able to statistically identify a decreasing trend in the total number of animals processing through the shelter, last year alone saw 4,193 dogs, and 3,595 cats, in our kennels. Yet despite this volume, our staff maintain an effective adoption/placement rate of between 70% to 78% of healthy adoptable animals!
Like most shelters, dogs and cats enter SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. via three primary scenarios...
1.)   Stray pickup by Animal Control.
2.)   Stray drop off by the public.
3.)   Owner surrender.
|
Currently the Shelter accepts ALL strays found within the city limits of Spokane.

Although owner surrenders are accepted as space permits, owners considering surrender are encouraged to exhaust all of their personal network connections relative to finding a home for their animal, before considering surrender as an option. A fee is charged for owner surrenders as the Shelter now has to absorb the cost of care and keep of the animal. As a matter of policy the Shelter cannot guarantee placement of a surrendered animal in lieu of a potential adopter's subjectivity and/or breed preference. But we try!
