DSL Setup for Intel 2100
-
Install the Modem's Device Driver
Note: You need to install the card into a PCI slot in your computer. Follow the steps
in Chapter 3 of the manual that came with the Intel 2100 for proper installation.
-
Turn on the computer. Windows should boot and say that it detected a PCI ATM Controller.
Click 'Next'.
Note: If Windows doesn't detect the new card, it may not be seated properly or may
be defective. Shut down Windows, turn the computer off, and go through the steps in
Chapter 3 of the manual again. Make sure the Intel card is firmly planted in the PCI slot.
If Windows still won't detect the Intel card, you will want to call Qwest DSL support.
-
In the next window, select "Search to find best driver.." and click on 'Next'.
-
Make sure the CD-ROM that came with the Intel 2100 is in the CD-ROM drive and make sure that
"CD-ROM drive" is the only option checked. Click 'Next'.
-
Windows should then find the driver on the CD and say it's ready to install it, click on 'Next'.
Note: If Windows is unable to find the driver on the CD, make sure you have the
"Intel 2100 PRO/DSL" CD in the CD drive. If you have more than one CD drive, try placing
it in the other drives.
-
Windows should then start installing the drivers for the Intel card. After the drivers are
installed, a window will come up saying that it is done. Click on 'Finish'.
-
Installing the Intel 2100 PRO/DSL software.
-
Windows will restart the computer. When it comes back up, it should automatically start
the "Intel PRO/DSL Modem Setup" program.
Note: If the setup program does not automatically
start, go through the following steps:
-
Make sure the Intel 2100 Pro CD is still in the CD drive.
-
Double click on the 'My Computer' icon.
-
Double click on the CD-ROM drive.
-
In there should be a file "Setup.exe" or "Setup" with a picture of a computer. Double
click on it.
-
A 'Welcome' window of the installation program should appear. Click on 'Next'.
-
The 'Introduction' window should appear. Click on 'Next'.
Note: If TCP/IP is not already installed in Windows
networking, the installer will now want to add it. Click on 'Install TCP/IP' and
follow the instructions given. You may need to supply the Windows 98 CD.
-
The next window asks which type of connection to use. Make sure to select
Point-to-Point(PPP) and click on 'Next'.
Note: Make sure to select "Point-to-Point". Otherwise
the connection will not work and the driver will need to be removed and re-installed.
-
A message saying that the computer must be restarted should appear. Click on 'Restart'.
Note: Windows may prompt for the Windows 98 CD. If it
does, you need to supply it in order for the needed file to be installed.
-
Configuring the Intel 2100 PRO/DSL software.
-
When the computer comes back up, an 'Enter Network Password' box may appear. If it does,
enter something for the username (it doesn't matter what). Leave the password box
blank. Then click on 'Ok'.
-
In the next window, make sure 'Server assigned IP address' is selected and click on 'Next'.
-
In the next window, make sure 'Server assigned name server address(dynamic)' is selected and
click on 'Next'.
-
At the Finish window, make sure the "Run the DSL Diagnostics Tests now" box is checked and
click on 'Finish'.
Note: At this point the Intel 2100 should be fully
installed and configured. The remaining steps cover testing the line and how to connect.
-
Testing and Connecting the Intel 2100 PRO/DSL.
-
The DSL Diagnostics Tests program should appear. Click on DSL Modem Test. The
program will test to make sure the computer can talk to the Intel 2100.
-
When the test is completed, a message appears. If the Intel 2100 passed, click on 'Next'.
Note: If there is a problem, that must be resolved
before continuing. Click on 'Help' to get some troubleshooting information. If you need
further help, you should call Qwest DSL support.
-
In the next section, click on 'MegaBit Service Test'. The program will test to see if the
Intel 2100 can talk to Qwest's DSL equipment at the phone switch.
-
When the test is completed, a message appears. If the connection passed, click on 'Next'.
Note: If there is a problem, that must be resolved
before continuing. Click on 'Help' to get some troubleshooting information. If you need
further help, you can call Icehouse technical services.

did not come up, then you should call Icehouse technical services.
Also Note:
-

-
In the right-hand side of
the taskbar (the bar with the Start button) will be
an icon for the Connection Manager. Double click on
that icon to bring up the program.
-
Alternately, you should also
find the Connection Manager by going to Start--Programs--Intel(R)
PRO DSL--Connection Manager.
-
Either way, once the Connection
Manager is up, click on the Connect button.
-
As the Intel tries to connect,
the three "lights" under the Status section will turn
green at each stage. When the connection attempt is
completed, the Connect button will change to
Disconnect.
-
If you want to disconnect
from Icehouse, click on that Disconnect button.
