Verifying Your Connectivity In Windows

  1. While connected, click on the 'Start' button, then the 'Run' option.

  2. Open the console.
    • Windows 95/98 : Type in "command" in the 'Open' field.
    • Windows XP : Type in "cmd" in the 'Open' field.

  3. Click 'Ok'. This should bring up a black console window.

  4. Release any old IP information.
    • Windows 95/98 : Type "ipconfig /release_all" and press your 'Enter' key.
    • Windows XP : Type "ipconfig /release" and press your 'Enter' key.

  5. Renew the IP information.
    • Windows 95/98 : Type "ipconfig /renew_all" and press your 'Enter' key.
    • Windows XP : Type "ipconfig /renew" and press your 'Enter' key.

  6. If you are connected, you will have an item that says 'IP Address'. If you are using a DSL Gateway that has a built in router, you will have an IP address that says something like "192.168.x.x" where the "x" are numbers. If you are on dialup or are on a DSL setup using a bridged setup, you might have an IP address looking something like "216.255.x.x". If you are not getting an IP address like stated above, you should call Icehouse technical support.
