Thank you for
taking an interest in our homestay program. The homestay experience
is quickly becoming a common and popular way for people from around
the world to meet and get to know one another.

Homestay
allows international students to live in a American home as
a member of the family. Our host families are carefully selected
because of their kind and caring personalities, and for their
genuine desire and willingness to open their homes and share
their families lives and customs with the student. |

| |
The goal
of AIE's homestay program is to provide these students with
a friendly, nurturing environment in which they can improve
their understanding of American culture, language, and form
meaningful and lasting relationships by living an American
family. It is through shared experiences like this that we
will learn much about the people and countries that surround
us. We encourage both the student and host to take an active
role in learning about the other's culture and lifestyle,
and to this end we hope that student will be able to participate
in as many family activities as possible.

Students
that live in homestay find that their English improves dramatically
through conversation and daily involvement with their families.
Homestay will provide students with a safe, clean and caring
atmosphere during your stay. Your Host family will help you
to adjust to your exciting new lifestyle in American.
Both host
and student gain the opportunity to talk and spend time with
one another in a manner that is not usually an option in conventional
tourism. For the student, homestay is a chance to participate
in the daily life of an American family and to make American
friends. And for those studying English, staying with a family
provides plenty of opportunities to practice the language
and to see how it is used by native speakers. For the host,
it is a chance to learn not only about another culture but
also to learn more about their own as they see America through
their student's eyes. AIE-USA's homestay program is perfect
for hosts and students interested in forming new friendships
and learning from a cultural exchange. It is important that
our hosts and students be patient and flexible in their relationships
with one another and that they keep in mind that the various
languages and cultures of the world are not
right or wrong - just different. And as there are
many differences, both cultural and personal, we ask both
parties to remember to always "treat
others as you wish to be treated yourself." AIE-USA
has always encouraged suggestions from its host families and
students on ways to improve its homestay program.
Please
send pictures of your family and home as they help a great
deal in mentally preparing participants for their experience.
The more a student knows about the situation he or she is
entering beforehand, the easier the adjustment after arrival.

Do
we provide support ? We realize that this may be the first time
you are hosting a student. We understand the challenge of communication,
and we make sure we are available for support and counseling
at any time that students and host family needs us. |
